LEGISLATIVE ADVOCACY

The Rio Rancho Regional Chamber of Commerce is focused on a bipartisan effort to influence the introduction, enactment, or modification of legislation on behalf of our business members, schools and our community. Through legislative advocacy, we promote pro business, pro education policies that benefit the community.

We meet with our legislators to share our views on issues and gain support to benefit our members.

The Partners committee is the member group that works with businesses, legislators and government agencies to ensure a unified voice on legislative issues. The group develops a variety of solutions and brings lawmakers and business leaders together through events and activities, such as Rio Rancho Day.

Official List of Declared Candidates for Rio Rancho Municipal Officer Election

 

RIO RANCHO, N.M. – Those who have filed as candidates for office and who have been qualified by the Rio Rancho Office of the City Clerk include:

 

  • District 1 City Councilor (four-year term)
    • Jim Owen
    • Anthony Felimon Torres

 

  • District 2 City Councilor (2-year term, unexpired)
    • Jeremy Paul Lenentine

 

  • District 4 City Councilor (four-year term)
    • Ryan C. Parra
    • Paul M. Wymer

 

  • District 6 City Councilor (four-year term)
    • Daniel J. Stoddard
    • David L. Bency

 

Each qualified candidate will appear in this order on the March 3, 2020 ballot unless a signed and notarized statement of withdrawal is submitted to the City Clerk on or before the seven (7) days after the declaration of candidacy filing date.

 

Write-In Candidacy

Individuals desiring to be a write-in candidate may file a declaration of write-in candidacy on Tuesday, January 14, 2020 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

 

Candidacy Challenging

Pursuant to state law, any voter may challenge the candidacy of an individual seeking election to a municipal office by filing a petition in district court within seven (7) days after the declaration of candidacy filing date or within seven (7) days after the declaration of write-in candidacy filing date, respectively.

 

Run-Off Election

If no candidate for a particular office receives more than 50 percent of the total votes cast, the candidates with the highest and second-highest vote totals for the applicable office will be subject to a runoff election. The runoff election would be held on Tuesday, April 7, 2020.

 

Also appearing on the March 3, 2020 ballot will be General Obligation Bond questions for roads and public safety

Candidate Guide and Early Voting Information Now Available for 2020 Rio Rancho Municipal Officer Election

RIO RANCHO, N.M. – On March 3, 2020, the City of Rio Rancho will hold an election to elect City Councilors for Districts 1, 4, and 6 for a 4-year term, and District 2, for an unexpired term of 2 years.

 

Eligible, registered voters interested in seeking office must submit a Declaration of Candidacy form, which can be found in the Candidate Guide, to the City Clerk’s Office on Tuesday, January 7, 2020, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

 

The Candidate Guide can be obtained by visiting www.rrnm.gov/2020election, or in person in the Office of the City Clerk located at Rio Rancho City Hall, 3200 Civic Center Circle, Suite 150, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Although not required, anyone wishing to schedule an in-person appointment with the City Clerk may do so by contacting the office at 505-891-5004.

Early Voting for the 2020 Rio Rancho Municipal Officer Election begins Tuesday, February 4, 2020. Here are the locations, dates, and times for Early Voting in Rio Rancho:

Public Information Meetings Being Held for Rio Rancho General Obligation Bond Questions

 

RIO RANCHO, N.M. – During January and February, the City of Rio Rancho is hosting public information meetings where voters can learn more about the Road and Public Safety General Obligation Bond questions that will be on the March 3, 2020 municipal officer election ballot. 

 

The meetings will be conducted in an open house format where voters, at their discretion, can review posted and available information, watch videos, ask one-on-one questions of City staff that will be present, which will include representatives from Rio Rancho Fire & Rescue and the Rio Rancho Police Department, and enjoy refreshments.

 

The meeting times, dates, and locations are:
